MinLand Staff Set Foot at Kablon Farm
to Learn its Best Practices
Kidapawan City - MinLand staff had an exposure trip at Kablon Farm in Barangay Kablon, Tupi, South Cotabato last August 8, 2005.
The staff were oriented with the history of the family-owned farm, now the famous Kablon Farm.
They were able to ascertain the advantages of organic farming over that of inorganic farming.
Kablon Farm adheres to protecting the environment by way of practicing diversified farming system or organic farming.
Ironically, the farm is surrounded with pineapple plantation that uses substances that are not environment-friendly.
During the visit, the staff also saw the importance of making the packaging of the products appealing to the customers.
They saw the processing equipment and the workers and learned that Kablon Farm has more employees or laborers and the farm also serves as a sanctuary of animals and birds.
Kablon Farm is most famous for its organic black pepper, passion fruit and cacao products not only in South Cotabato but in the whole of Southern Mindanao.
The Pantua family started small and eventually ventured into processing their products.
Their products now are black and white pepper, coffee, cacao, lanzones, guava, jackfruit, coconut, passion fruit, durian, rambutan, papaya and a lot more.
Their market has now widened.
Mr. Jun Pantua said that vital to success are having the raw materials to be processed and access to the market.
Also, sustainability of the business is ensured if one offers a variety of products.
Kablon Farm is a good learning destination for partner communities of MinLand because just by being in the place makes one feel in awe of the bounty that nature offers to those who take responsibility over its gift.
For sure, partner communities would be encouraged to start their own initiatives in improving their farms and maybe having a little business of their own.
After all, the Pantua family did start small.(MinLand)
