Improving Filipino Learning Processes
through Good Educational Materials
and Facilities
Date Posted: July 12, 2006 (Wednesday)

Kidapawan City - A ceremonial turnover of computer parts and books from Move On Philippines International, Inc. to College of Engineering and Computing (CENCOM) USM-Kabacan and some schools in Kabacan Municipality was held on July 5, 2006 at CENCOM Auditorium.

Dean of CENCOM, Dr. Rommel Tangonan in his opening remarks said that this year has been a season of giving. He enumerated people who are philanthropic like Bill Gates and Hollywood star Angelina Jolie. This undertaking from Move On Philippines is unique and special because these tools would enhance the learning processes of the learners and that these are additional tools to further the cause of education for the betterment of the future.

MinLand staff Yvonne Saliling read the letter coming from Move On Philippines which says, “You have a task of harnessing these tools and using them to further your education and shape your future. This challenge falls in your own hands, not tomorrow, not next week or next month or next year but today, right here, right now. May every click of the mouse and every tap of the keyboard bring you closer to the bright future you are aspiring for—a shared future which binds us all. And so, as we turn these resources over, it is our hope that they will help you become more adept and competitive in your field, opening the floodgates of opportunity in the digital economy. Lastly, no matter where you go in the future, be the best that you can be and please remember to look back and serve the community where you came from.”

Ernesto Ariaga, a representative from the DepEd Cotabato hoped that in the near future, the Philippines would no longer be regarded as a poor country and that Filipinos will use education as a key to make Philippines a developed country. He wished that one day, the Philippines would no longer be receiving donations from other countries but will be the one donating something to other countries.

I believe that today, no institution can go very far into the future without availing itself of the benefits and opportunities of modern technology. I appreciate the efforts of the Move On Philippines through the Mindanao Land Foundation because they really see to it that their projects are not wasted,” says Kabacan Mayor Luzviminda Tan in her letter read by her representative Ms. Lorena S. Navaira. She encourages the recipients to “see to it that these undertakings shall be used properly so that our donors may not be dismayed but instead be inspired for us to receive other projects in the future.”

Dr. Kalinggalan Abdulsani, USM Vice President for Academic Affairs closed the program with his message saying that the donations would, in a way, lessen, if not, end the problem of blaming each other. He opened up that Elementary and High School teachers are blamed for not producing quality graduates. Likewise, the USM is pinpointed as not being able to produce competent and quality education graduate students which lead to not producing excellent elementary or high school graduates.

Schools and offices that have also availed of the Move On Philippines educational materials or computer parts were from Osias Day Care Center, Tamped Primary School, Simbuhay Primary School, Buluan Primary School, Kabacan Pilot Central School, Malabuaya Elementary School, USM Laboratory, USM Annex Elementary School, USM College of Education and USM College Library.

The event was attended by more than forty persons that included students, faculty members and staff, deans of colleges of USM, MinLand staff and teachers, representatives and principals or heads of recipient schools. A ribbon cutting ceremonial launching the Engineering and Computer Graphics Laboratory, where most of the donated computer parts were utilized, was also part of the program.

Move on Philippines International, Inc. was incorporated in the state of Florida as a nonprofit charitable organization. Its mission is to provide tools for improving the quality of education of poor Filipino children in remote, poverty-stricken areas of the Philippines and to create partnerships among Filipino expatriates that provide avenues for them to make a difference in the lives of native Filipino children.

Mindanao Land Foundation, Inc. (MinLand) was created to respond to the complex development problems of poor communities in Mindanao. It envisions that selected partner communities affected by social conflict are enabled to help other communities towards development. (MinLand).
