| Festival Tackles POs' Contribution in Development and Peace Building
Kidapawan City -
Rufa C. Guiam, Director for Center for Peace and Development Studies of the Mindanao State University (MSU) in General Santos City will be guest speaker to the 2nd People's Organizations Festival of best practices that will be held on December 4 - 6, 2007 at the Guadalupe Formation Center, Balindog, Kidapawan City.
With this year's theme, "Ipamahagi ang Karanasan, Pagtibayin ang Natutunan, Ipagpatuloy ang Nasimulan", Guiam will share her insights on PO Best Practices, the contribution of People's organizations in community development and peace initiatives and the realities and experiences of development work in conflict and post conflict communities. She is also expected to present updates on peace process.
Expected participants are representatives from the Government Line Agencies (DAR-STARCM, NCIP, NEDA XII, DSWD XII, LGUs, and IPHO), Funding Agencies, Media, the Academe and Civil Society Organizations who have assisted or presently assisting communities on the ground that have demonstrated sound practices in Advocacy, Peace Building, Women, Environment, Community Infrastructure, Health, Economic and Livelihood, Youth and Children and the like. Of the 35 expected People's Organizations who will participate to the said festival, 10 will stage a 15-minute presentation showcasing community initiatives and best practices towards peace and development.
While a festival held last year has indeed served its purpose in bringing community initiatives to the forefront of peace and development and in fostering better relationships by building a culture of sharing and learning among stakeholders, this follow up festival will be another venue to continue the productive exchanges and camaraderie where the most significant learnings and experiences will be shared and tackled among stakeholders present.
The festival is organized by the Mindanao Land Foundation Inc. (MinLand) in collaboration with the Invisible Link - Cluster 1, an informal alliance of CSOs working in conflict affected areas in Mindanao and is supported by The World Bank Mindanao Trust fund - Reconstruction Development Program (MTF - RDP), MoveOn Philippines International and the Bangsamoro Development Agency.
