POs Celebrate Festival on Best Practices this December

Kidapawan City - People's Organizations (POs) in conflict and post conflict communities in South Central Mindanao will showcase their best practices towards peace and development on December 4-6, 2007 at the Guadalupe Formation Center, Balindog, Kidapawan City.

The participants are expected to arrive at 8 - 10:30 in the morning of December 4. The 3-day festival will formally open with an authentic cultural presentation that conveys positive values and a Symbolic Prayer from a Manobo Tribal Leader of NATABUKFED, an indigenous PO from Damulog, Bukidnon.

The first day of the celebration will highlight the 15-minute presentations of the 10 People's Organizations from the Province of North Cotabato, Bukidnon and Maguindanao who will be showcasing their innovative and successful models of ideas, processes, sound practices and experiences on the ground. Successful stories that will be shared by the POs dwelt on Advocacy, Education, Peace Building, Women, Environment, Community Infrastructure, Health, Economic and Livelihood, Youth and Children, and the like.

On the second day of the festival, Ms. Fely A. Singco, Chair of the Invisible Link and Institutional Development Specialist of DAR - STARCM will give synthesis and unities on the Best Practices presented and discussed by the POs.

Ms. Rufa C. Guiam, Director for Center for Peace and Development Studies of the Mindanao State University (MSU) in General Santos City will be the guest speaker. She will be giving input on PO's best practices and its contribution to peace and development in post conflict communities in Mindanao. She is also expected to share updates on peace process.

After the synthesis of the presentations and input of the guest speaker, an open forum, group workshop and plenary (output presentation) will also be conducted with the decision makers (Reactors, Funding Agencies and Guests).

The festival will be closed with a symbolic ceremony using hand prints of the participants for Peace, Unity and Harmony. It symbolizes people, regardless of race, culture and traditions hold on to sustain peace, harmony and unity. (MinLand)
