Educational Materials for USM Mobile Library
Date Posted: May 26, 2008 (Monday)

MinLand, in partnership with MoveOn Philippines International (MOP) in Jacksonville, Florida, USA, turned-over educational materials (books, dictionaries, encyclopedias, magazines, teacher's manuals, tapes, CDs, educational toys, among others) to the Community Extension Services of the University of Southern Mindanao, Kabacan, Cotabato last March 24, 2008 for its "Mobile Library". The Director of Community Extension Services, Dr. Luz Taposok, represented USM.

MinLand staff together with the USM Extension personnel arranges the carton of books for the mobile library project of University of Southern Mindanao.

On a scheduled basis, these rare but useful reference materials may now reach students, teachers and community residents in remote barangays particularly in the municipalities of Mlang, Tulunan and Magpet in North Cotabato. MinLand donated the bulk of its "Learning ResourceCenter" educational materials since this would mean greater and wider beneficiary reach.

The "Mobile Library" was initiated to help the economically and geographically disadvantaged communities especially the indigenous and poor children in remote and poverty-stricken areas of North Cotabato. It will also provide opportunities for people to have access to technology and basic education materials and references no matter where they are and who they are.

MinLand, USM Extension Services and MOP's common goal bymakingthese educational materials available to far-flung barangays is to contribute in helping improve the quality of education of poor Filipino children who someday will"make a difference" in the lives of Filipino families.

As what MOP believes, children are leaders of tomorrow.  They must be equipped with better education.  With a strong educational foundation, children even in the most impoverished and remote communities have a chance at college, a career, and a ticket out of poverty.

MOP, USM and MinLand hopesthat this initiative will flourish and be replicated by other actors to support the learning and development of Filipinos. (MinLand)
